I’ve already mentioned on here that I am not a big fan of Lean Cuisine products. I’ve had a few good ones, but they usually leave me unsatisfied (both in terms of taste and portion size). Their pizzas are the worst frozen pizzas I’ve ever tried. So why the hell would I get a flatbread melt, which appears to be a bunch of fillings thrown on top of some pizza dough? I don’t know, maybe I’m just a masochist.

The picture up top is what this looks like once it comes out of the microwave – you can see the chicken pieces, peppers, cheese, and sundried tomatoes. So far, so good. There is one thing that seems to be missing, though. There is supposed to be some sort of basil pesto on here, but I sure don’t see any. Anyway, what happens next? You pick it up and fold it in half, like so:

I think it looks like a gordita from Taco Bell. In fact, you cold totally tell me that this was Taco Bell’s attempt at a cheesy chicken flatbread or something and I would believe you.

Let’s start with the bread. There’s a dusting of cheese on the outside that gets nice and crispy (and golden brown) when you cook it. I don’t think it tastes like much, but for a microwave bread, this is pretty damn good. It doesn’t get soggy or mushy with all the toppings, so I can’t complain.

The fillings are surprisingly good, too. The chicken is definitely better than most microwave chicken dishes – I didn’t pick any pieces out, which I’ve been known to do. In fact, I was hoping for a little more chicken than there was. The red peppers and sundried tomatoes are nice, but forgettable. The cheese is pretty good, too. Nothing here really stands out. It tastes good, but it doesn’t taste like much of anything. That pesto that I mentioned earlier? It’s there, but barely. If I was a judge on Top Chef and this was served to me, I would call the entire thing “inoffensive.” Is it bad? No, not even a little bit. Is it great? Nope. It’s a decent meal that I would definitely buy again if it were on sale, because it’s quick and easy. The flavors aren’t bold, but they’re there. I won’t run out to the store to buy another one, but I finished the whole thing and felt satisfied after eating it.
